Focus on: Conservatory flooring

Your dream conservatory is finally being built and now it’s time for the fun part – decorating and accessorizing! But before you grab those paint samples and start ordering furniture, make sure you’ve got your flooring nailed down.

Getting the flooring right for your conservatory is just as important as getting the design and structure right. There are certainly a few points to take into consideration when choosing your flooring, and we’ve outlined them here.

Things to consider

Whether you go for carpet, laminate, vinyl or luxury vinyl (LVT), it’s worth taking the time to do your research and speaking to the experts (that means us!). Bear in mind that temperature, humidity and the amount of sunlight will all influence the flooring in a conservatory. 

If your conservatory is or is going to be added on to your kitchen or dining room, then you need to think carefully about the flooring, for example, it will have to be water and spillage resistant. Remember: you must ensure that all spillages and stains are cleaned up as soon as possible – you don’t want any stains or warping on your lovely new floor!

You will also need to consider the traffic and footfall through the conservatory that leads into the garden. Don’t forget that dirt might get brought in from the garden, which is why laminate is so popular. Laminate is also easy to clean, as well as being stain and scratch-resistant.

Will you be able to regulate the temperature? Investing in blinds and shutters not only keeps the heat out, but it can also help to keep the heat in during the winter months. These are also worth considering as constant sunlight can sometimes cause some flooring to fade. However, a good quality laminate, such as the ones sold at Carpetright, won’t fade in the sun.

Top tip: Move furniture around so you don’t end up with uneven colouring or patches on the flooring.

Can I put carpet in my conservatory?

You can go for carpet or carpet tiles as this allows you to experiment with texture and colour. Although carpet can make a room feel cosier, you’ll need to make sure it is durable and hard-wearing enough to cope with the amount of traffic and possible dirt. Most importantly, make sure it is a floor you’ll love for years to come.
