Aloha – one of this year’s biggest romantic comedies, is coming to UK screens later this month. Set on the island of Hawaii, it follows the story of a defence contractor (Bradley Cooper), who falls for an Air Force watchdog (Emma Stone) after he is assigned to a mission on the island.
With a star-studded supporting cast including Rachel McAdams, Alec Baldwin and Bill Murray, it looks set to take the summer box office by tropical storm when it hits the screens on May 29th.
To celebrate the release of Aloha, we explore some ways you can introduce some Hawaiian flair into your home this summer.
Brightly coloured vinyl flooring is a great way to bring tropical style to your kitchen. Bright orange, vibrant pink or lime green vinyl flooring can all work well in a Hawaiian-inspired kitchen, complemented by matching accent splashbacks, work surfaces or tiles, and set against a more muted cabinet and wall colours.
Hawaiian style isn’t all about bright colours and floral patterns – you can also go for rich, dark wood kitchen cabinets, combined with lighter oak tone laminate floors to create a more contemporary and understated beach house kitchen.
Liven up your living room with some tropical coloured accents, like curtains, cushions and soft furnishings – you can also use brightly coloured feature sofas and accent chairs in bold, vibrant hues to bring colour to drab spaces.
To add vibrancy, brightly coloured flooring or carpet can be the way to go. Combine these with more understated, lighter-coloured furnishings to bring balance to your tropical theme.
To create the Hawaiian beach house look, more rustic, mid-toned laminate, set against off white walls and a dark, reclaimed wood or bamboo coffee table will work well together. A beige rug will help to finish of the room scheme and bring softness to the space.
If you’re looking to bring some tropical flair to your bedroom, then a bright coloured carpet, offset by lighter, more muted walls, curtains and accessories is one option.
Alternatively, take inspiration from island beach house retreats, and turn your bedroom into a tropical sanctuary with the addition of mid wood-tone laminate flooring.
White cotton sheets and pillows will help to complete the island living look, and you can always bring a splash of colour to your bed with the addition of tropical cushions or a hibiscus pattern throw.
Bringing some tropical flair to your garden, patio or outdoor space is easier than it might sound.
Whilst a hot tub and Tiki bar are probably pushing things a bit too far for most people, you can still get the Hawaiian feel by investing in some wooden decking and bamboo furniture – perfect for bringing a tropical vibe to your next BBQ!
For a more authentic feel, why not try planting some hardy hibiscus in your borders: it’s the official flower of Hawaii, producing beautiful blooms during the summer months. Strategically placed bamboo lights and candle-holders, combined with some wooden or stone Tiki statues will help to complete the look.
