Lucy Alexander’s top tips for your home

We recently had the pleasure of sitting down with our lovely Lucy Alexander and asking her a few burning questions.

So, if you’re planning to revamp your home, you’re in luck!

Here are Lucy Alexander’s ultimate top tips for your home.

  1. Use the same flooring throughout an open area.

If you have lots of open spaces and open doorways leading one room to the next, use the same floor type and colour throughout.

It’ll give your home a consistent look and make it feel even more spacious.

  1. Invest in a good quality underlay.

Got a heavy traffic area? Get a good underlay.

Got noisy neighbours? Get a good underlay.

Got a cold home? Get a good underlay.

Love comfy and cushiony floors? Get a good underlay.

This one is probably Lucy’s most repeated advice.

A good underlay can increase the lifespan of your floor massively. It’s great for shock absorption and heat and sound insulation. And you can really tell the difference underfoot!

There are loads of types of underlay to choose from. Each is made for each type of floor and specific lifestyle needs.

So go in store and talk to the experts. They can help you choose the best one for your floor and lifestyle.

  1. Pocket sprung vs. memory foam beds.

Which is best?

Answer: try them for yourself.

Lucy has a pocket sprung bed  at home and when she rolls over in the night, her partner is sure to never be disturbed. It moulds itself to your body shape. That’s the beauty of it.

She also swears by the experience of lying on a memory foam bed  – that it’s like ‘sinking into cotton wool’!

It’s best to go in store and have a lay down on all the beds to find the one you like. Beds are very much like shoes – you’ve got to try them before you buy them!

  1. Luxury vinyl tiles for ‘real’ textures and looks.

Lucy loves luxury vinyl tiles .

She says she’s been so impressed with how real they look, whether it’s wood, marble or stone you’re after.

Once you see a luxury vinyl tiles floor, you can’t resist touching it to see if it’s real!

  1. Laminate for the real wood look without the hassle.

Laminate will give you the perfect ‘real’ wood, slate or stone look but it’s so much more practical and it’s more affordable than luxury vinyl tiles.

It’s really easy to fit – you can just do it yourself in a weekend.

Most are fade, burn and scratch resistant, so it’s perfect for a busy home.

If you want the real wood look without the worry of its upkeep, laminate is for you!

  1. Vinyl is your clever budget option.

Lucy says that vinyl flooring  has come so far – in quality, look and feel.

It’s really durable and affordable, and there are so many styles to choose from so you can really have some fun.

With vinyl, you can get your whole house done under budget.

  1. Ask for help.

Getting a new floor is so worth it, and it doesn’t have to be as big of a hassle as you think!

Lucy’s best advice is to go in store and ask for some expert help.

Whether it’s for inspiration, advice, practical help or different ways you can buy a floor, there are always friendly faces on hand to help and guide you through the whole process.

At Carpetright, we’ll measure and estimate your room for free and our recommended expert fitting service is approved by Which? Trusted Traders, so you can just put your feet up while they do all the work.

Bonus: What does Lucy think about artificial grass?

There are so many uses for artificial grass!

If you’ve got a family who loves to play outside, having artificial grass means that they won’t be bringing dirt and mud back into the house.

It’s also great for small spaces in your flat, like patios. It brings so much life and helps brighten up any area.

And we’ll let you in on Lucy’s little ‘cheaty’ secret. There’s a little bald patch in her garden that she fills it in with artificial grass and nobody notices!

You can choose from a whole range of great quality artificial grass  that looks just like the real thing.
