Guest Post by Nick Ede

It’s the run up to Christmas and it feels as if everyone is having a party. I have spent the last few months organising other people’s charity events but this month it was my turn to host my annual ‘A Night With Nick’.

I’ve been organising and hosting this event to create awareness of strokes for the past 18 years, and it was great to see so many people still coming to support it. I decided to hold the event at the Rah Rah Rooms, a fabulous venue in the heart of London in Piccadilly – with its decadent stage and long bar it’s the perfect place for a party.

This year I wanted a cabaret so I enlisted the help of my dear friend Collette Cooper to perform some traditional Christmas songs with her band. She’s a fabulous personality who really makes events go with a bang.

The night started with a cocktail party, where the cocktails served were special recipes named after myself. They were incredibly tasty and were served with a lovely rose petal on top – they seemed to go down a treat!

The room soon filled up with my dear friends and family, and then as the night got underway the celebrities started to arrive too. It was so great to have the support of stars including Meg Mathews, Sinitta, Noelle Reno, Lara Pradelska, Vogue Williams, Matt Johnson, Sian Welby and ‘The Apprentice’ star James Hill. Other famous names in attendance included the brilliant musician Maverick Sabre and my neighbour and Olympian Louise Hazel.

The performances then came thick and fast with opera singer David Webb and comedienne Joy Carter who performed her own hilarious version of black swan on crutches!

The First Lady of house Kym Mazelle sang her hits to a captive audience and then the Tailor Made sang one of my favourite Christmas songs ‘Merry Christmas Everyone’. It was such a fun night and there were many young stroke survivors in the audience, which made the evening even more poignant.

I didn’t get to bed until the small hours with brilliant sets from Harriet Rose and Fia Tarrant. All in all ‘A Night with Nick 18′ was one of my most memorable.

I’m now looking forward to a small break before organising my engagement party which will, of course, be utterly fabulous!
