This month House Envy visits the home of interiors blogger and TV presenter Jen Stanbrook to find out what influences her unique contemporary style & why she loves to go bold with her home interior.

Jen Stanbrook

Where do you live?

I live in Nottingham in the East Midlands.

Sum up your interior style in 3 words:

Contemporary, modern, and bold.

What is your favourite room in your home & why?

This changes from time to time but currently the favourite space has to be the newly converted attic, which we’ve turned into a bedroom and en-suite.

It’s incredibly light and bright and such a haven away from the rest of the house. We’ve also renovated the first floor landing to include lots of glass which has turned out well, and looks wonderful against the original Victorian features.

Second to that has to be my living room. I find it such a relaxing space and some of my favourite furniture pieces are in there too.

What is your favourite object in your home & why?

Oh gosh, that’s a very tricky one. I’m not sure I have one single favourite item in the house, but photos are very important to me and so I’d say the collection of photos of family and friends displayed on walls and shelves, are probably most special to me.

Other pieces I love include all kinds of lighting, including my daughter’s feather light pendant, and wallpaper. I recently installed this industrial style tiles wallpaper on my landing and love the way is shimmers and glimmers in the light.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

Inspiration tends to come from everywhere. When I’m out and about, visiting friends, at events, in hotels and so on, as well as from other blogs, online stores, magazines and Pinterest of course. I tent to lose hours lusting over other people’s homes.

What is your view on D.I.Y?

Well, I have to be honest and say it’s not my favourite thing in the world. I do enjoy making and creating a few things around the home, but I’m not great at it and tend to leave that to others.

I’m ok with decorating, painting and wallpapering, and love to get stuck in when needed. Luckily my other half is much better at it all than me, so together we make a great DIY team.

Whose home do you have House Envy of??

Oh there are so many, but I’m currently loving US blogger, Vintage Revivals’ home.

It’s full of Mexican, dessert pieces with her own immense style thrown on top. She loves to make her own projects too (so I’m incredibly envious there) from furniture upcycling to full room revamps and has a very clear image and styling.

It’s not a style I would replicate, but I love the way she puts her own stamp on things, without worrying what people think about it – or so it seems anyway.
