Discovering chewing gum stuck to your carpet is one of those moments in life when your stomach sinks at the thought of the effort you’re going to have to put into removing it. However, many people don’t realise how easy the solution is.

The most popular method of removing chewing gum from your carpet is using ice. Follow these instructions for the best results:

  1. You can either use a single ice cube or several ice cubes in a freezer bag to hold on top of the chewing gum. This will freeze the gum and make it easier to remove
  2. Keep the ice on the chewing gum as long as you can or until it feels frozen. With the freezer bag this will be about 15 minutes and with the ice cube it might only take a couple of minutes
  3. Once frozen, shatter the gum and vacuum.
  4. Clean the area with a suitable carpet cleaner and blot dry
