Does the little lady in your life love playing the princess? Make her fairytale dreams come true and create a fantasy slumber world to delight her. She’ll soon be asking to have her best friends over for a sleepover.
CHOOSE A THEME TO GET STARTED
Time to get creative. The shops are full of princess-themed goodies, but make it personal and theme the bed and room around her favourite story or movie.
Discuss the theme and different princesses with her. Does she love classics like Cinderella or Beauty & The Beast, or go for a more modern-day Disney favourite like Merida from Brave. Encourage her to create her own mood board. We promise you your daughter will relish being involved in the creative process and being treated like a grown up.
BUY A HIGH BED
Think The Princess and The Pea and start with a high bed that oozes royal grandeur, even in a small space. If you don’t want to go all out pink, a white bed looks fresh and pairs well with splashes of colour; pink, turquoise or purple. You’d be surprised how many girls – and their parents – prefer not to choose pink. The Hi/Lo High Sleeper Children’s Bed has the height fit for a princess, but includes lots of storage as well as space to display her whimsical accessories.
Stylist tip: Customize the bed by painting the drawer handles and stairtreads in metallic paint.
CREATE YOUR OWN CANOPY
A canopy is easy to make and a fun project to do with your daughter on a rainy day. Buy a large embroidery hoop from a haberdashery shop, some sheer curtains or tulle and matching ribbon. Decorate the sheer fabric with whatever embellishments match your theme. Sequins, stars or soft feathery plumes will catch the light and look as pretty as a peach. When you are finished, tie the inner hoop with ribbon and hang to the ceiling.
Stylist tip: For a truly magical feel, attach twinkling lights arranged in a pattern on the ceiling above so she can lie in bed and look up at the stars.
SURROUND THE BED WITH A WALL MURAL
Take your theme further by asking an artistic friend to design her very own mural based on her favourite story. If she loves Disney’s Frozen, paint a snow themed scene from the movie, or go all out with a life sized Princess Elsa sprinkling magic over the bed.
Stylist tip: If you prefer not to paint, choose a wall sticker to surround the bed. They too make a statement and easily peel-off when it’s time for a change.
Layer cushions over the duvet cover. As well as keeping the duvet clean (big tick), layers finish the bed off and plump cushions make for comfy bedtime reading. Well-selected accessories can convey the story you have chosen in seconds. Go for a mix of bright, patterns and fabrics that match the theme
Stylist tip: Turquoise with gold piping will be very Frozen or a soft yellow will be immediately recognized as Belle from Beauty and The Beast.
