Long sunny days spent outdoors, picnics in the park, trips to the beach and weekend barbecues in the garden – summer is coming, and here at Carpetright, we couldn’t be happier about it!
As we prepare for a scorching BBQ summer (we live in hope), here are some quick tips and expert advice on how to prepare your home for the summer months.
Introducing summer colours
Brightening up your home with a splash of vibrant, summer colour is one of the quickest, easiest and most affordable ways to prepare for summer inside.
Whilst you can go all out and repaint the walls in summer hues, you don’t have to do much to make a real difference. Small touches, like swapping out muted cushions for those with brighter covers, or adding a few colourful accessories or pictures will help to add vibrancy and give your home a more summery feel.
If bright colours aren’t your thing, you might also want to consider introducing some crisp, fresh white – pure and simple, it’s a versatile summer scheme that’s always in style.
The scents of summer
On warm and balmy summer days, bringing some inviting summer scents into your home will make it feel clean and fresh.
During the daytime, lively zingy citrus smells like lemon work particularly well, whilst spicy cinnamon, sweet orange and fragrant vanilla are ideal for warm evenings spent relaxing indoors. Fresh cotton and light floral scents are a great option for keeping your bedroom smelling wonderful.
Whilst plug in fresheners and sprays are the easiest way to go, carefully positioned scented candles, natural oil diffusers and summer potpourri will add summer style to any room.
Update your flooring
If you’re looking to make bigger changes, swapping out your carpets for chic laminate flooring will help you to make the most of the summer weather.
In the living areas, changing your lounge flooring to hard-wearing laminate makes a lot of sense, especially for summer. It’s made to stand up to busy, active households, and you’ll find it much easier to clean when pets or family members bring in mud, grass and dirt after playing outside all day!
Laminate can also make your rooms feel more spacious, and help to keep your living areas cool and comfortable during hot days.
Give your bedroom a summer makeover
A few small changes can help to turn a hot, stuffy bedroom into a cool and comfortable summer sanctuary. If you haven’t done so already, top of your list should be changing out your winter duvet for a lightweight, low tog summer one.
You might also want to consider changing your bed linen. For a start, think about the colours – changing darker sheets for crisp white linen will make your room look and feel cooler. Swapping out synthetic fibres for breathable cotton will help to keep you more comfortable on hot, sweaty nights.
Summer is also a great time to invest in a new bed, mattress and pillows. Some mattresses are better at dispersing heat than others, so if you find that you’re too hot at night, go for a breathable mattress, or consider investing in a cooling mattress protector.
