1. What are the different types of storage beds?

A storage bed is simply a bed offering a storage solution. This can be in the form of small drawers or the whole underneath of the bed.

Divan beds

A divan bed is a solid base to which you add a headboard and mattress. This is the most simple and cheapest storage bed available. There are 3 types; a pocket-sprung divan that has springs in the base, a memory foam divan which moulds perfectly to your body, and platform-top divans which have a harder feel.

Ottoman bed frames

An ottoman bed offers most of its interior as a storage space, which is accessed by lifting the whole top of the bed up. This is an excellent way to store things on a longer-term basis such as extra bedding or seasonal items.

Children’s storage beds

Children’s cabin beds or sleepstations provide storage space underneath a raised bed platform. The bed is usually accessed via a ladder. This is a great way to save space in a small bedroom and leave plenty of free floor space.

2. What are the benefits of a bed with storage?

When living in a small home it can be difficult to find places to store everything. A storage bed gives you the opportunity to free up space in your wardrobe and on shelves by packing away rarely used items until needed. Storage beds have been developed to efficiently hide away clutter, while retaining a great night’s sleep.

How much storage space do divan beds offer?

With all of our divans you can choose different storage options; you may prefer 2 large drawers on each side or just one main drawer. And the larger the bed size, the more storage space there will be available. Ottoman beds offer the most storage as they do not need to make room for separate drawers.

How do you assemble a divan bed?

How do you assemble an ottoman bed?

You may need extra spanners and a screwdriver to assemble your ottoman as the mechanism and hinges need to be fixed in place. Before you begin the assembly, make sure you have all the parts. You may need help to assemble the ottoman as you will need to lift the top to tighten the bolts.

5. How do you care for storage beds?

The beauty of a storage bed is that inside the compartments remain dust-free. This means your spare bedding or clothes will stay fresh and clean for when you need them again.

Storage beds are easy to clean around too; a divan or ottoman reaches the floor so you won’t get some much fluff accumulating underneath it as you would a normal bedstead. Many divans are also on castors; making them easy to move to vacuum underneath.

Dust and vacuum the bed as you would a normal bedstead.

6. Storage bed safety advice

Do not jump on the bed as this can also cause the structure of the bed to bend or break. When assembling the bed follow all directions carefully, ensuring all screws are tight and the bed is stable.

With bunk beds or other high sleepers, check that the ladder is securely fastened to the bed and teach your children how to use this safely.

Check the bed regularly for wear and tear; cracks or sharp bits can cause injury so it is important to spot these early and address any problems.
