If your partner’s snoring is driving you mad or you’re just fed up with the nightly duvet tussle then you may feel tempted with the delights of sleeping on your own. Here are ten reasons why sleeping in a single bed is a good idea.

CR-ED0293 Why A Single Bed

1. DUVET BATTLES

There is nothing worse than waking up in the middle of the night, freezing cold while your partner is blissfully asleep having hogged the entire duvet. Blankets and sheets produce the same problems. This might be one of the reasons why single beds are gaining in popularity.

2. READING IN BED

Many people find that reading in bed is an ideal way to try to calm down after a stressful day but if you share your bed then this can lead to problems. Constant complaints about the light can lead to arguments which totally defeat the soothing objective of reading in the first place.

3. SNORING

You know the feeling. You’ve just started to dream and there is a loud elephantine noise penetrating your subconscious. Yup, that’s it; the bliss of the first sleep has been spoilt, yet again. Opt for a single bed and say goodbye to disruptive snoring.

4. RESTLESS SLEEPERS

One thing that’s worse than the mattress/duvet hugger is the person who is as active in their sleep as they are in the day. Their kicking, twitching and mumbling will disturb you.

When you are asked if you have slept well, the following morning, just try not to grind your teeth!

5. A BED OF ONE’S OWN

Virginia Woolfe famously wrote the novel A Room of One’s Own extolling the necessity of private space. The same applies to beds. Your bed.

6. WE ARE BORN AS INDIVIDUALS

Even if you’re in a happy relationship and love the intimacy that comes as a result of that status, you may find that cuddling together during the summer nights isn’t the road to happiness. Perspiration and irritation are often the result of close body proximity during these months so give yourself some room to breathe in a single bed.

7. PRIVACY

We are at our most vulnerable as we sleep and for that reason alone sleeping in a single bed might be preferable to sharing for some people.

8. EARLY RISERS

If you are constantly woken at 4.00am as a result of your beloved’s early rising perhaps you should consider a single bed. Some people have to get up at that ungodly hour for work while others just indulge in this habit because they are at their most active in the morning. Whatever the reason, it can be terribly disruptive for those who don’t share this routine.

9. SLEEP WALKING AND TALKING

If you’ve ever woken up to someone having a full-blown conversation (to an invisible person) from the pillow next to yours, chances are that the person you share your bed with talks in their sleep! If they compound this aggravation with sleep walking you’re in for a restless night and sleeping solo could be your only chance of a decent sleep.

10. RELAXATION

You should be able to go to bed secure in the knowledge that your duvet will stay on your body, the room temperature will suit you and you’ll be able to get a good night’s rest.

If this isn’t the case, there may well be trouble ahead.
