1. Have a garden games tournament

Make the most of the good weather by organising a sports tournament in the garden. Create an official score board, dress up in your teams colours and blow the whistle on your first match whether its swingball or a water pistol shoot out. You could also have a space hopper race, a bat-and-ball Wimbledon style tournament or whatever else takes your fancy!

2. Build a fort

Some of the best childhood memories don’t have to cost a penny and nowhere more is this obvious that building a fort. Give your children free run of the living or dining room, and a few sheets, cardboard boxes, clothes airers and whatever else you can find before challenging them to create their forts. They could even invite some of their friends over and ‘camp’ over in their forts overnight.

3. Bake a feast fit for a King

Teach your youngsters crucial kitchen skills and have fun at the same time by preparing a feast. You could bake butterfly buns and allow them to express their creativity in decorating them, along with a number of other easy to prepare savoury treats such as homemade sausage rolls. Why not make the most of the occasion by having a carpet picnic or laying out a picnic rug on your laminate or vinyl floor – a great all weather activity!

4. Cosy up to a movie night

If you’ve still got left overs from your picnic why not use them as the perfect movie snack. If you cant decide on a film you could do a voting system or put all of the options into a hat. You could also make a day of it and cosy up watching back-to-back film series, or watch one of each of your family members choice. Prepare the popcorn, and get comfy!

5. Go on a treasure hunt

A fun way to keep your family occupied is to create an around the house treasure hunt. You could make it as simple or difficult as you like, with the cryptic clues needing a task completing before the next stage is revealed for example. Its a good way to get your children working together as a team to solve it, or you could bring our their competitive nature and set them the challenge of whoever finds the treasure first gets to select that night’s movie.
