Your bedroom should be a haven of peace and tranquillity; your own space to unwind after a hard day’s work, to read a book, watch your favourite TV show and of course sleep. Whatever you use your bedroom for, it can be difficult for some people to relax if the room is cluttered and untidy.
Magazines and websites are full of beautiful images of minimalist bedrooms, beautifully dressed and perfectly tidy. The reality of course can be very different! Chairs can become extra hanging space for clothes and scarves, shoes can spill out onto floor space and piles of this and that can slowly build, all due to a lack of storage. If your bedroom is more chaos than calmness then read on and we’ll try and make it easier for you to bring the serenity back into your boudoir.
The problem of bedroom clutter can be easily solved without costing the earth. Simple and economical bedroom storages ideas are readily available with one of the cheapest and easiest being simple storage boxes. These boxes come in lots of designs and funky colours to complement your colour schemes and can easily be stacked on top of one another taking up minimal space. Great for shoes, make-up and other accessories, some people with small bedrooms even dump their chest of drawers in favour of stacking boxes.
Next let’s look at your wardrobe and make the most of the dead space at the bottom. Shoe racks are perfect for this area and mean your shoes can be stored neatly in pairs and are easily accessible. If you can’t find a shoe rack to fit, shelving can be installed and works just as well.
Of course the ideal solution to your clutter woes is a storage bed. These usually come in the form of divan beds with a storage option in the base; sometimes simple drawers are enough for your bits and bobs, but if you need a substantial amount of space, ottoman beds are the answer. Some are available as half ottomans which are fabulous, but a full ottoman bed can give you bags of storage space for bedding, towels, books or anything you want. The mattress base lifts up to reveal the space underneath but this in no way compromises the comfort of the bed, instead it utilises the otherwise wasted space in the bed base. These beds can make an amazing difference to your bedroom and in one swift move can transform it into the peaceful sanctuary you’ve always dreamed of.

Of course, in order to maintain your chaos-free living space, it is necessary to carry out regular decluttering. The key is not to let things build up again so you don’t find yourself in the same situation once more, and that can be tricky, especially if you are someone that doesn’t like to throw things away. Be ruthless. If you haven’t worn an item of clothing in the last five years, are you likely to ever again? What about all of those books that you keep because you enjoyed them so much. Will you ever l reread them? Or the shoes that you wore a couple of times but never again because they pinch? Is it not better to bag it all up and give it to charity knowing that someone, somewhere will get use of your things while you can take advantage of the room it gives you? Once you have your ottoman or half ottoman bed and have stored all you want to keep, be honest with yourself and have a clear out of everything else. You will feel better for it. Then keep on top of it, being careful to not allow the untidiness to build up again with regular declutters. This will allow you to breathe in your bedroom, stretch out on your bed and enjoy the relaxing ambience you have created – and you so deserve.
