Autumn is upon us, and as we begin to hear the crunch of fallen leaves underfoot and begin swapping summer clothes for thick jumpers, stylish boots and warm coats, it’s also time to get home interiors up to date with the exciting new season. Here, interior designer and journalist Diana Civil talks us through the biggest interior trends of Autumn 2015.

“Autumn’s hottest new colour trends will have us seeing vibrant shades in a bold new light.”

It’s time to ditch neutral tones and make a loud and proud style statement with bold colours that really pack a punch. As Diana explains, decorating with vibrant colours isn’t as scary as you might think; using your favourite colour in your home is actually a brilliant way to get across your own unique style and character.

Choose green carpet or walls this season for a stylish, on-trend look

Thanks to its uplifting and refreshing qualities, green is one of the biggest trending colours of the year. Which ever shade of green you choose, you can be sure this colour will instantly give any room in your home a beautiful new lease of life.

“Vibrant green walls create a colour pop against a striking white laminate floor.”

“Mix things up bohemian style with big bold leafy green wallpaper and graphic patterned vinyl.”

“Give tradition a twist with tartan in new colour combinations, perfect for cosying up a scheme in an instant.”

Use the right red to update your home interior

“Red is also a key shade of the season, but choose the tone to work with your home and architecture.”

Whether you choose to keep it traditional with deep, blue-based reds such as rich oriental, Ox Blood and Burgundy reds, or go modern with primary and pillar box reds, this colour will add warmth and style to your home in an instant.

“With the retro and neoclassical trends in full swing, patterned carpets are making a big comeback”

Go all out by teaming a patterned carpet with coloured walls, dramatic furniture and opulent accessories for an air of indulgence that is very on trend this season.

To achieve a more modern look with red, use bright pillar box or scarlet tones, but limit them to either the walls, or floor and accessories so that the colour doesn’t take over the whole room. Creating a contemporary patterned floor is a fantastic way to make a bold style statement this season.

Dark walls, carpets and furniture create a fashionable dramatic look that is big this Autumn

“If you prefer a dark, dramatic scheme, choose fashionable midnight blue and inky shades for schemes with full on intensity.”

Darker colours are sensuous and luxurious. With the correct lighting they work amazing well in small rooms. Use dark shades for floors, walls and furniture, then offset with crisp white accessories to make the room come to life.

If you don’t feel brave enough to embrace the darkness of the deep blue shades, turquoise makes an amazing alternative and makes just as much impact.

Use rugs to bring any room up to date with the latest trends

“A rug is a great way to bring in colour regardless of your decor. A large, room size rug picks up the colour throughout the scheme with a few well placed accessories in coordinating tones.”

If you want to make the transition from neutrals to vibrant colours more of a gradual process, or simply feel intimidated by such a dramatic change of colour scheme, then a rug is a great way to incorporate on-trend shades into your interior design. Complemented with accessories and soft furnishings in coordinating tones, a rug can quickly transform a room and bring it bang up to date with Autumn’s latest trends.

“If you love the idea of using bold colour and have never taken the plunge, maybe now is the time to give neutrals the push and explore a brave new world of colour to give your home a vibrant and exciting new look.”
