August for many signifies the peak of summer, however you don’t have to be jetting off on an exotic holiday to enjoy this month. Here’s a few tips of how to make August a great time to take advantage of all the good things going on in the UK.

1. Weather

As we know good weather is never guaranteed in the UK, but August gives us the best chance as the month has the highest average temperatures of any other in the year. As one of the mildest months, it also makes it a great time to take advantage of the remaining long daylight hours in the weeks.

2. Carnivals

There’s plenty of events happening in the UK this month, with two of the biggest taking place at opposite ends of the country. The famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival sees comedians, playwrights and all other theatrical performances take over the city for almost the entire month. In the south of the country, the Notting Hill Carnival see the streets of North London awash with steel drums, food stalls and floats, with the carnival taking place from the 29th August to the 31st.

3. Music festivals

August also sees some of the country’s biggest music festivals take place with the Leeds/Reading festivals, V Festival and Creamfields all seeing crowds enjoy a wide variety of acts and musical styles. Whatever the weather, the throngs of festival-goers are set to enjoy acts from Metallica to The Chemical Brothers across the numerous events. If you struggle to get tickets to some of the larger festivals, there’s plenty of smaller more local festivals happening nationwide during August so you’re set to get your music fix.

4. August Bank Holiday

A key event during this month is the end of August Bank Holiday weekend. As it is the last one until Christmas in the UK, why not take advantage of the extra day off by catching up on some sleep and spend some much needed time in your bed having a lie-in. This bank holiday weekend is also a popular time for redecorating – so why not freshen up your home with a new carpet or add a contemporary look with laminate flooring?

5. Seasonal food

Some great produce comes into season in August, making it a great time to experiment in the kitchen and create new dishes. It’s also a great time to take advantage of the summer berries such as strawberries and raspberries – you could even go to a local farm and pick your own.

6. Start of the football season

For football fans, August only means one thing – the start of the new season. The Premier league kicks off on the 8th August meaning fans can once again line the stadiums of the UK to support their respective teams for the 2015/16 season. There’s also a transfer deadline day at the end of the month which always causes mass excitement among fans.
