Simple rules for adding texture to your room

It is easy to overlook the importance of texture in any decorating project, primarily focussing on colour and pattern choice. Without a mix of interesting textures your room could look flat, boring and cold. The addition of 'texture' is a really important part of creating a successful room scheme.
Here are some of my top tips for introducing a variety of textures into your room to make it more inviting, interesting and comfortable:
If your room's colour scheme uses just a single range of colours for example, all blues and mauves or all creams and beiges, it is particularly important to add a variety of textures to prevent your room from looking sparse and flat. Adding different textures will help to add depth.
Include a variety of different textures in your room. Balance glossy surfaces with some rougher and more matt textures; like linen, sisal, basket, faux fur throws, chunky knitted cushions, natural wooden furniture and leather frames.
Remember that texture can relate not just to how something feels but also how it looks. So think about texture in terms of both tactile textures and visual textures.
One of the simplest and most effective ways to introduce texture into your room is via your flooring choice. Carpetright have a huge range of fantastic vinyl's which will enable you to achieve anything from a terracotta tile look to a crafted oak appearance.
Textures don't have to be exaggerated to have an impact, just elements of texture can transform the look. For example: high shine, glossy surfaces can help to add a modern, sophisticated style to your room. These reflective surfaces will also help to make your room look bigger & brighter. To create this effect use lacquered & mirrored furniture, satin curtains & cushions, large mirrors, wallpaper with shiny pattern details and glossy wall tiles, but remember not to do too much.
For a chunky texture check out the Zanzibar Deluxe Cable Carpets, for supreme texture check out the Shaggy Supreme Carpets and remember a deep pile carpet will always look and feel luxurious!
