odern life is often fast paced and stressful. When you get
home after a busy day at work it is important you are able to relax and unwind. Our homes are our sanctuary away from the stresses of the outside world…once you step inside your front door you need to feel a sense of calm, order and comfort. Your flooring is the first thing you and your guests see as you enter your home and plays an important part in setting the relaxed, welcoming ambience of your home.
Calming, soothing colours which encourage relaxation are; earthy tones, blues and natural green shades…so select flooring, wallpapers and paints from these colours.

It's important to have ornaments and knick-knacks around the home that mean something to you, but try to use shelving and surfaces to create artistic display areas rather than having everything scattered around the house.

Placing small groups of your objects together that have something in common can help to create a sense of order e.g. a group of similar decorative items / bowls.

If possible try to create personal spaces within your home for everyone in your family so you each have somewhere to go that is special and unique to you…even if it's just a special reading corner in your living room.

Research shows that if you spend long hours in artificial light you can
experience feelings akin to jetlag. Therefore allowing as much natural light as possible into your home is very important. Skylights are great for this but a
less expensive solution is using window blinds that can be rolled up and allow
more light to filter into rooms or voile fabrics rather than heavy curtains,
which can often darken a room.
If you work from home then consider fitting daylight bulbs in your 'home office/computer' area to combat the darker Winter days.
There are many low-maintenance indoor plants that you can place around your home and this is a good excuse to buy yourself or your partner fresh flowers once a week!!!
There are so many fabulous furniture designs available but it's important the furniture is comfortable and doesn't just look good, in particular sofas, beds and dining furniture. Enjoy the time you have for relaxation and look forward to going home and sinking into your wonderful sofa.
It is a great heat insulator; making your home feel warmer, it absorbs noise;
making it a quieter, calmer environment and is soft underfoot; sinking your feet into a luxurious deep pile carpet is a very relaxing sensation!
