How to make a small room
look bigger

Small rooms can often look and feel cramped, crowded and uncomfortable. There are a few decorating tricks you can use to make a small room appear bigger and brighter:
Light shades of neutrals, blues, greens and violets, as well as white, help a room to look big, bright & airy. Consider painting the walls of a small room in one of these light shades to reflect more natural light.
Painting your skirting boards and coving a lighter colour than your walls will make the walls appear further away.
Flooring in light colours will help your room look and feel more spacious and narrow striped carpet designs will help
to make it look longer.
Mirrors can reflect natural and artificial light into a room so consider placing a big mirror near to a window to help your room seem brighter.
By including
some furniture
in a similar colour

to your walls you will create a "blending" effect which will help to stop furniture looking as big and bulky in the small space.
Don't overcrowd your room
with furniture. The more of the floor you can see, the bigger the room will look. Low furniture such as coffee tables, ottomans, storage chests and seating cubes make a room seem more spacious because you can see more of the walls. Open or transparent furniture features will also help
to make a room seem more open e.g.
glass table tops, arm chairs with
open arms or no arms and sofas
with visible legs.
