Soft and luxurious rugs can add warmth to hard flooring such laminate and vinyl that is so on trend at the moment, try a wool rug or even a sheepskin rug. Q: How can I make my large room feel cosier?

A:
Carpets are fantastic for transforming large rooms into warmer and more inviting spaces by introducing texture and colour. Rich, deep Saxony carpets in dark, warming tones can add a cosy, luxurious look, as well as feel indulgent underfoot. You could also consider a more textured look with a Loop Pile carpet. These add warmth and softness to a room, with subtle tones and wonderful rustic finish.

Q: What’s the best type of flooring for my kitchen?

A:
The kitchen is often the busiest room in our homes, having to cope with heavy footfall as well as spills and splashes from cooking and daily chores, so it makes sense to choose a hardworking and durable flooring that can withstand all types of wear and tear.

I would suggest opting for a tough vinyl floorcovering. Vinyl is one of the most practical solutions for kitchens as it is waterproof, very hardwearing and low maintenance, making it universally popular and one of the top choices for kitchens. Not only is it my choice for practicality, but I also love the fact that vinyl comes in a huge variety of designs and patterns so you really can go to town choosing a design that compliments the style of your kitchen and your decor from bold and graphic contemporary prints to patterns that emulate a whole range of natural products. Many of the good quality vinyl ranges compete with real tiles, stone and wood in looks and quality but at a fraction of the cost of the real thing.

Q: I really like wooden floors but can’t afford them, what do you suggest?

A:
Solid wood floors look beautiful but can be extremely expensive, so if you don’t want to blow your budget it is worth investigating wood-effect options which can look great and cost a fraction of solid wood. Laminate flooring is a great value option and available at Carpetright from just £7.99sq.mtr.

Made from a high density compressed fiberboard plank covered with a photographic image and a protective top layer, it is available in a multitude of thicknesses, designs and effects, including embossed surfaces and beveled edges for a realistic looking ‘floorboard’ finish.

Laminate flooring is also extremely easy to fit, maintain and keep clean, however some ranges are not suitable for wet areas like bathrooms or kitchens so check the specific range details before buying. With a little care, laminate will give you the wooden floor look that lasts– in fact some of the laminate ranges at Carpetright are guaranteed for 25 years!
