From food and drink to shoe marks, it’s very easy to stain your carpet so it is important that you know how to avoid, manage and remove carpet stains and spills.

Dealing With Carpet Stains and Spills

In the event of a spillage, it’s important that you clean it up immediately as leaving it could potentially lead to further damage. If you have spilt liquid, the stain should be blotted with a clean, dry, white absorbent cloth or paper towels. Also remember to clean a liquid spill from the outside edges to prevent the stain spreading.

On occasion, it may be necessary to use a stain remover. When this occurs, it’s important to look for a cleaner specifically formulated to handle the type of stain you have and that you rinse your carpet with cold water and blot with a dry cloth until the cleaner has gone.

Never scrub the stain as this can damage or distort the pile which will also affect the look of your carpet. It is also important to remember that certain carpets require a certain vacuum. Loop pile carpets should be vacuumed with a low level cylinder cleaner using the suction head only while cut pile carpets should be vacuumed with an upright cleaner with beater bar and brush. Underlay helps protect your carpet against point loading depressions made by heavy furniture and household fittings, whilst also helping the carpet to recover more quickly. New carpet underlay also provides excellent insulation. It’ll help keep your home warmer and reduce fuel bills, whilst intrusive noise levels can also be reduced greatly from adjoining rooms.
