The right fibre for you

​You can choose from three types of carpet fibre; natural fibres, synthetic fibres and blended fibres.  natural fibres like wool are soft and luxurious, as well as durable.  Synthetic fibres can be stain resistant, hardwearing and also great value for money.  Blended fibres, such as a mixture of wool and nylon, are both hardwearing and beautifully soft.

Twist Pile Carpet- Stylish and Practical

Twist pile carpets are ideal for busy families.  They’re made from twisting yarn tightly together, which makes them hardwearing and easy to look after.  You can choose between two types of twists: plain and heather.  Both have a lovely even surface that’s springy underfoot.  The heather shades come in lots of colours, and they’re less likely to show marks, so they’re perfect for your hall or living room.,

Saxony Carpet - Deep and Warm

Saxony carpets are deep, thick and beautifully elegant.  They have a slightly longer pile that you can really sink your toes into.  The sumptuous finish means they’re perfect for bedrooms – so when your feet touch the floor in the morning, a lovely layer of carpet will keep them warm.

Loop Pile Carpet - Textured and Rustic

Loop pile carpets are classic and durable, and are made from synthetic fibres or wool.  The loops can be different lengths, to create a textured effect you’ll want to run your fingers over.  Because they’re durable, they’re great for most areas of your home, from your hallway right through to your bedroom.  A word of warning though, pets can pull this type of carpet with their claws.

Patterned Carpet - Bold and Full of Character

A pattern brightens up even the dingiest of rooms, whether you’re making a statement in your hallway with stripes, or styling your lounge with floral motifs.  Patterns can be dramatic, adventurous and fun.  Not only do patterns give your home character, but they’re great at hiding marks too.

We at Carpetright know that interior designers will no doubt agree that every colour has its own psychology. There is even a Chinese philosophy, the Feng Shui, which focuses on attracting positivity through balancing the energy of a room. Therefore, by balancing colours in an area, one may create a particular atmosphere that they desire.

So, with the days becoming cooler and cooler, we think that it’s best to think about using warm colours to make your home welcoming and cozy. Some colours, especially red, gold and orange, radiate warmth like a flame.

RED:

Identified with: Red symbolises two very different terms; cupid and the devil, which is love and hate. Although they are both superlatives that sit on the opposite sides of the scale, they both represent very strong feelings. This colour can radiate feelings of passion, warmth, boldness, intimacy as well as power and drama. By using red, it can easily add elegance to any room, simultaneously comforting and exciting the individual within.

Combination: For a dramatic look; colour block with bold blues and greens. If you’d like a more intimate design though, combine red with black, white or other neutral colours.

Warning: Red can be very powerful, too powerful for some. So only use this strong colour if you enjoy an atmosphere that encourages stimulating emotions.

Room: Use red to improve intimacy in the bedroom, add warmth and cosiness in your lounge and create a dramatic dining room for an elegant supper.

Achieve: Create a warm and cozy home or dramatic and unforgettable rooms.

GOLD / ORANGE:

Identified with: Gold is the colour of the sun, encouraging revitalisation, which is often reminiscent of a holiday. This colour can also symbolise luxury and a prestigious style. So not only can this help recreate a sunny break but also generate a rich and abundant atmosphere. Similarly, orange is often associated with energy and tropical countries where the climate is warm. It is also interesting that orange helps increase ones appetite, making it perfect for the dining room. As some wood effect vinyl flooring gives out an orange light, it makes sense to use it in the kitchen as well. 

Combination: Both gold and orange will look great with white, which will create a contemporary minimalistic interior style. Why not try a more bold design, by adding blue to make a serene atmosphere or green for a naturalistic and Caribbean look recreation of the palm trees with the sun and energy!

Warning: If you are a person that is naturally energetic, these colours may make you feel chronically elevated. It may not be a good idea to use orange and gold therefore in a room which you would like to relax and be calm.

Room: We recommend orange and blue for the ideal bedroom and luxurious white and gold for an elegant lounge and superior dining room. Whilst, simple golden hues and orange shades of vinyl will look sleek and modern in any kitchen and bathroom interior.

Carpet Size

Like most textiles, carpet is made on a roll. Standard rolls are 4m wide but some carpets are available in 3.96m and 5m wide.

What are the benefits of each type and style of carpet?

Cut Pile or Twist Pile Carpet
One of the most popular and hardwearing carpets available. Two or more strands of yarn are tightly twisted together to give that “twisty” look and provided added strength to the fibres. Twist pile carpets come in a wide range of colours, patterns and weave designs so you’ll be sure to find something that suits the style of your home.
Great for: lounges, dining rooms, halls, stairs and landings.

Loop Pile Carpet
Also known as Berber carpets. These are a strong and wide carpet where the fibres are literally looped through the backing to create a natural woven look. Loop pile carpets come in a wide range of patterns to suit any room but may not be suitable if you own pets as they can get their claws caught in the pile and pull the thread from your carpet.
Great for: most rooms.

Saxony Carpet
Deeper tufts make these carpets rich and luxurious. Similar to twist or cut pile but with longer strands, the added softness and smoothness makes them perfect for adding a touch of indulgence to any room. Not suitable for heavy traffic areas as it will quickly become flattened.
Great for: bedrooms.

Shag Pile Carpet
The ultimate carpet indulgence! Made the same way as twist or cut pile carpets, these carpets offer extra tall, soft tufts to give a deep, super-shaggy look and feel making them perfect for rooms that require a little extra softness. Don’t be tempted to use in high traffic areas though as it will quickly become flattened and matted.
Great for: bedrooms and dining rooms.

Patterned Carpet
A popular choice in modern homes, patterned carpets allow you to make a bold flooring statement. Patterns from floral to stripes will add drama, style and individuality to any room.
Great for: most rooms.

Axminster Carpet
Known for their quality, longevity and durability. An Axminster carpet is machine woven, with individual pieces of yarn being woven with the weft. The most popular style is a velvet look; however more recently manufacturers are using twisted yarn to reduce the effect of shading.
Great for: most rooms.

Wilton Carpet
A Wilton carpet is a high quality, woven carpet noted for having up to five colours per pattern. Wilton carpets are available in many patterns and they can have a looped (uncut) or cut pile. The difference between a Wilton and Axminster is that a Wilton carpet yarn is a continuous strand woven all the way.
Great for: everywhere!

Door Bars
If you are laying carpet between two rooms or want seamless flow between different flooring in those rooms then you will require a door bar. Single door bars are perfect for protecting a carpet that is not joined to another carpet whereas double door bars ideally join carpet to carpet in the neatest possible way. If you are looking to join two different heights of flooring to provide a neat finish, you should choose a Z door bar.

All our flooring is made of different materials and each has benefits throughout the home. Whether it’s added luxury or practical features such as being hard wearing, it’s important to know these differences as they will support the look and life of your new flooring.

What are the benefits of each material?

Wool
Wool is a traditional carpet fibre and is known for bringing a touch of comfort to any home. Renowned for retaining its appearance for longer, wool carpets easily spring back into shape and are resistant to soiling, easily maintained and have low flammability.
Wool is resistant to cold water based stains and has a low lustre appearance, which means the colours are always deep and rich. For added strength and durability and to reduce shedding, wool is often blended with a synthetic fibre like polyamide or polyester, you may often find a blend of 80% wool and 20% man-made fibres, resulting in a luxury carpet fit for any home.

Polypropylene
Polypropylene is renowned for its resistance to stains because colour is locked in during the manufacturing process. Polypropylene carpets are also hard wearing, fade resistant and much lower in price providing both durability and affordability. It can even be cleaned using a part bleach cleaning solution making it an extremely practical choice for family homes.

Polyamide
Also known as nylon carpets. Durable and resilient, polyamide carpets can be dyed or printed after tufting which is why they are often sold in a range of vibrant colours, exciting patterns and bold designs. Polyamide is a popular fabric choice as it retains both its looks and style much longer than other synthetic fibres. It also one of the hardest wearing synthetic fibres.

Polyester
Most people prefer the appearance and feel of wool but modern polyester carpets can produce a much more natural softness. More commonly used as a blend rather than on its own, polyester is also renowned for its look, feel and how easy it is to clean.

Laminate Flooring
Laminate flooring is made by layering a sheet of decorative material over either particle board or a synthetic base. The decorative top layer can be made to look like wood, stone or tile and can also be embossed by machine or textured by hand to add more texture and realism.

The laminate is coated to add greater protection to the surface which is why laminate flooring is a popular choice for busy, modern and active family homes.
