Caring for your twist pile carpet
Think before you buy
Ongoing care
Cleaning
Okay so you’re the proud owner of a twist pile carpet. What’s the best way to take care of it?
Well there’s no doubting that twist pile carpets are one of the most practical around so you’ve chosen well already! That’s because the short, dense pile resists crushing underfoot. But also, as the twist pile is available in either manmade or natural fibres, or indeed a combination of both, they usually are good stain resisting carpets.
Think before you buy
First things first: ask about the quality of the backing. It’s worth noting that a quality backing is as important as the quality of the pile itself, you can do a lot in the care and maintenance department before you carpet is even laid. You can also invest in a good quality underlay which will so a great deal in the protection of your new twist pile carpet. Another thing you can do before you even install your new twist pile is consider where it’s actually going. As there aren’t many twist piles out there with a waterproof backing, it’s best not to choose a twist for your bathroom.
Ongoing care
Once your twist pile is in place, get the vacuum out immediately and then give your carpet a good going over regularly, say once every two or three weeks. We’d recommend an upright vacuum cleaner with a cylindrical brushing action or a cylinder vacuum cleaner with a power brush attachment for a twist pile. And despite twists being good at resisting weight from above, it’s still a good idea to move your furniture around on a regular basis.
Cleaning
See our Care and Maintenance section for our cleaning recommendations but also, if you’re dealing with a stain or spill, please remember not to rub too hard on a twist pile. This may have the effect of roughening and untwisting the pile in the affected area and will noticeably stand out.
